Loop Pile Construction
Loop Pile construction begins with not cutting the loops in the fibers. Advantages of closed loop pile carpeting include the fact that they don’t show footprints as do some cut-pile styles. Also, carpets with tighter, heavily-twisted loops have more resistance to matting and crushing.
Cut Pile Construction
With its cut, exposed ends, cut pile carpets come in many different lengths and thicknesses which may be twisted to add texture, pattern and added durability. Often there are also varying levels in the pile that create anything from complex patterns to plush and close-cut textures. Saxony, Berber, and Frieze carpets are created in this way.
